Supply and Demand
Automotive Industry Supply and Demand Katharyn E. Moore Supply and Demand The automobile industry has certainly have seen fluctuations in supply and demand, especially in the last decade. The economic turmoil of the United States has only been one factor in supply and demand of vehicles. This is evident with employment and income of consumers, interest rates, gas prices and the consumers need for more efficient cars. The demand for more fuel-efficient transportation increases as gas prices rise and the supply for fuel-efficient cars also rises. Manufacturers will increase the supply of fuel-efficient cars to meet the demand. If the prices of these cars are more than what the consumer is willing to pay, the demand will decrease and inventory of these cars will increase. A decrease in price of the fuel-efficient care will cause the demand to increase and the manufacturer to increase supply at the price the consumer is willing to pay. Equilibrium is the supply and demand of fuel-efficient cars will meet at a price that the consumer is willing to pay and the price the manufacture will charge for the car (Colander, 2011). The resources needed for the industry whether it is employees, raw materials, financial and technology affect supply and demand in the automotive industry. These resources are needed to facilitate the making of vehicles and their supply either abundant or scarce will affect the industry. The unavailability of steel in manufacturing of fabricated metal product decreases the ability to supply the framework for a vehicle will decrease (Gross output by Industry, 2010). The manufacturer will have to decrease the supply. The limited availability will increase prices of metal and decreases demand for the product at a higher price. If the demand for cars is high, the manufacturer will have to pay the higher cost and forward that increase on to the consumer increasing the price of the car. The consumer may not want the higher cost car and demand for the car will decrease a factor in moving the supply and demand curves of cars. Alternatives in the automobile industry are ongoing as manufacturers are introducing more fuel-efficient cars as well as biofuel (e85) and electric cars. New technology and consumer preference of these alternatives will affect the supply and demand of vehicles. Consumer preference to a more ecological friendly vehicle increases demand and encourages supply increases from the manufacturer. Consumers have the opportunity to help the environment and decrease the usage for gas when renting a vehicle. Enterprise has added electric cars to their rental fleet along with hybrids and fuel-efficient vehicles (Finance News, 2011). The shift in demand for these vehicles will change the demand curve of alternative vehicles. Consumers are the important factor in supply and demand in the automobile industry. Our decisions of a fuel-efficient vehicle and the price we are willing to pay for these vehicles influence the supply and demand. We have choices as consumers, and these choices influence competition, pricing, and demand of vehicles available for purchase. The supplier will act accordingly to these demands and make available the supply of product the consumer wants. The demand for vehicles is dependent on pricing, new technology, fuel efficiency, alternative fuels and competition (Colander, 2011). These decisions will increase or decrease the supply and demand curves with these choices. With all of these and other factors the supply and demand curve will increase and decrease as the market changes with these influences. Supply and demand will always be changing as we choose to purchase products and services that we need for our psychological and physiological needs. References Colander (2011). The Mind Body Problem Rene Descartes Essay - 972 Words
The mind-body problem, which still is debating on what it can be, still goes on today about the difference or similarities between the mind and the body. Rene Descartes had a belief that the mind and body are two different substances that can exist separately on their own, and that one can live without the other. But there is no right or wrong answer for either. Physicalism and dualism, I believe both of these give a good case about the mind-body but there really isnââ¬â¢t a real good answer, but between the two I find dualism to be more plausible with the mind-body problem. Dualism states that the mind and the body are two completely different things, independent from one another. (Nerruan Webster) In Wikipedia, physicalism states that the body and mind is the same thing. I find it a little hard to believe that the mind, which is a nonphysical substance, can be the same as a physical body. Therefore, I will explain some theories and examples that back up dualism. For example, you go to a concert and have backstage passes to see the singer you absolutely love. Your heart starts dancing inside and you get butterflies inside your tummy and all of a sudden this can stop by seeing their manager canceling the meet and great you were excited to do. Everything that you felt inside of your body goes away. Our feelings and thoughts are followed in time by the changes of our body and activities. ââ¬Å"If two things do not have exactly identical properties, then they are not identicalâ⬠Show MoreRelatedThe Mind Body Problem, By Rene Descartes Essay1331 Words à |à 6 Pages Mind-Body Problem Oluwadamilola Kamson Philosophy 101: Introduction to Philosophy November 2016 INTRODUCTION The Mind-body problem dates back to Plato and was well received by the scholastic philosophers. Fahrenheit 451 Essay Free Essays
Fahrenheit 451 Synthesis Essay In the book Fahrenheit 451, author Ray Bradbury describes a futuristic society in which it is normal for an average individual to shun and absolutely loathe books. The main character, Guy Montag, works as a fireman, and his job description consists of burning books instead of preventing fires. Television is a major topic in this book, and for the most part, is portrayed as an extremely obsessive and deleterious item. We will write a custom essay sample on Fahrenheit 451 Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now Today, in American society however, television is a much more positive thing, and has a lot to contribute to a healthy, connected, and well informed society. In American society, television can save lives instead of destroying them. Tim Leberecht, a well-reputed blogger and columnist, proclaims, ââ¬Å"studies indicate enormous potential for TV to serve as a health educatorâ⬠(Leberecht). Television provides us with information about how to keep better health in an interesting and effective way. By using drama and popular culture references, TV educates us about health concerns and ways to prevent them. Bradbury obviously does not realize this aspect of television when he states on page 21, ââ¬Å"If we had a fourth wall, why itââ¬â¢d be like this room wasnââ¬â¢t ours at all, but all kind of exotic peopleââ¬â¢s roomsâ⬠(Bradbury 21). Montagââ¬â¢s wife, Mildred, tries to convince Guy to get her a fourth TV wall, which would completely enclose her in a fake TV world. In reality, however, people make much more out of TV than in this fake, futuristic society. Television today has transformed into a machine that can make us grasp and learn difficult items with ease. TV can make us smarter (as it) contains multi threaded storylines featuring fifteen or more characters,â⬠states www. designmind. com (Leberecht). These complexities in plot make us think extensively and outside the box, and push our minds to the limits of our computing ability. Unfortunately for the natives of the futuristic society in Fahrenheit 451, television only contains useless information that dr ives viewers to forget information about their families. ââ¬Å"When did we meet? And where? â⬠Montag asks his wife (Bradbury 42). TV has driven them to forget about the people that live in their own homes, as it depicted as a very negative concept. In our modern day television, however, we have the ability to understand and comprehend complicated ideas as a family, and serves to unite rather than disperse families through the art of learning. Television breaks down barriers and taps into our better selves. Tim Leberecht pronounces that ââ¬Å"After the 1965 Watts Riots, CBS Journalist Joe Saltzman produced Black on Black, a documentary about what it means to be black in Los Angelesâ⬠(Leberecht). Television series, documentaries, and movies help to break down barriers and restrictions between race, gender, color, and creed, and make us knowledgeable about the fact that everyone is created equally in these measures. Without the aid of TV, many important movements around the world would not have taken place. A study conducted by Hollywood, Health Society, shows that ââ¬Å"viewers of the episode (of CBS show Numb3rs on an organ donation storyline) were more likely to become registered organ donorsâ⬠(Leberecht). Television informs us about ways that we can better ourselves as well as help others. On page 20 of Fahrenheit 451, Mildred memorizes the simplistic and useless storylines of the television shows she watches (Bradbury 20). On the other hand, in the real world we have many TV programs where we can learn and apply the right things to do in life, instead of committing to memory the ways to respond to a fake TV family and life. Television brings family and friends together in ways that make everyone feel comfortable and entertained. ââ¬Å"Televised events like the Super Bowl, the Olympics and the World Cup give us a rare opportunity to share a moment in time with the world,â⬠proclaims Tim Leberecht of www. esignmind. com (Leberecht). With our busy lives, we almost never take out time to spend with our loved ones, and these televised events are when the majority of people meet up and have fun. ââ¬Å"Millie? Does the White Clown love you? Does your ââ¬Ëfamilyââ¬â¢ love you, love you with all their heart and soul, Millie? â⬠Montag asks Mildred (Bradbury 7 7). Guy Montag is questioning his wife out of desperation, and is extremely curious to know if she believes that her fake TV family really loves her. From this we can see that he is truly disappointed with life and his wifeââ¬â¢s immoral addiction to television. We must keep in mind that our society today is not as dumbed down and obsessed with fake parlor shows that spread real, tangible people apart as Mildred is. TV today is a source of knowledge and learning, and creates the perfect circumstances and settings for the getting together of the people that really matter the most. One of the most important aspects of television is its ability to strengthen democracy and teach the law. ââ¬Å"Seventy-two percent (of the US population) learn about elections and candidates from TV news,â⬠states www. designmind. om (Leberecht). TV brings us information that is essential to maintaining our freedom and our guaranteed rights. It also provides us with news about the world, and of countries that have strayed off the path of democracy and the consequences that they are forced to endure through because of that. ââ¬Å"The search is over, Montag is dead; a crime against society has been avenged,â⬠claims the TV news anchor in Fahrenheit 451 (B radbury 149). In reality, Guy is still alive and on the loose, but the news gives out fake information to the population. The news in Montagââ¬â¢s society is just a source of propaganda, instead of the true, insightful, informative, un-biased news we have broadcasting 24/7 in the modern day United States. Television saves lives, empowers health, makes us smarter, breaks down barriers, makes us better people, brings loved ones together, and strengthens democracy. TV is clearly a force that informs, entertains, and makes us the best that we can possibly be every single day. Day By Day free essay sample
For the past 12 years I have been surrounded by many peers who have set aspirations. I, however, have always had a plethora of ideas in my mind to the point of not being able to choose just one. This has led to me to a life of versatility and flexibility. I strongly believe that straying from labels and leaving your comfort zone helps build character. Strong group identity is not a very powerful asset in my life. Starting in kindergarten, teachers began asking the question What do you want to be when you grow up? Every single year I had a different answer. I went through these phases where I would become passionate about a certain subject but after some time I would always change my mind. Police officer, photographer, astronaut, paleontologist, journalist: all of these ideas and yet none of them would stick. After a while, I accepted the fact that I could not undertake just one career choice and I decided to let myself go through all of my phases. We will write a custom essay sample on Day By Day or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I was hoping that by this point, I would have chosen one for sure. Regardless, I have been going with the flow and have been experiencing all the alternatives that life brings me. Strong group identity has not necessarily been an important aspect in my life. I believe that because of the fact I have not chosen a set career path, I should be exposed to as many groups as possible. This, of course, comes with limits. I stay near the educated and goal driven identities and tend to stay away from the less driven people. I consider that exposure to many options widens your knowledge. Not identifying with a group also helps me become more accepting to new things and change in my life. For the past 12 years I have sat in class biting my nails because I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I have finally accepted that I should just enjoy every experience that comes my way and find my calling when it comes. Whether that takes 2 months or 2 years, I know the day will come sometime in the near future. Not identifying with a strong group identity has helped me reach a point where I have had the chance to understand so many different paths.

To Be a Successful Learning Team free essay sample
Team Cooperation and communication are the main ingredients when it comes to a successful learning team. Effective team management is a vital part of becoming a successful learning team. ââ¬Å"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage (Thomas, E 2012) says it best. Just because we are successful on one project, does not mean failure will not revisit us. It is the trust and confidence that we put in to each other that makes failure obsolete. Being in a learning team at the University of Phoenix has really been a great experience. When working in a group, it is important to first get a feel for your group members. In our learning team, we are extremely lucky that we get along and gel great together. When working in a team, that is one of the most important pieces to this puzzle. Also, we have had an opportunity to get together for a non University of Phoenix related activity and it has also given us a chance to get a feel for each other outside of the school type atmosphere. We will write a custom essay sample on To Be a Successful Learning Team or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page We felt that was a very important piece of the team bonding experience. We also understand that we all have different learning styles but luckily there not too far off from one another. When we first formed our group, we understood how much more important it is to get together and meet as opposed to trying to do a conference call with one another. We decided that at least once a week, we will meet at the Kalamazoo Public Library to do our learning team assignments so there is no confusion with what needs to be done and what our individual responsibilities are. Trusting your team members is another vital piece to the learning team puzzle. If you cannot trust the members of your learning team, it will be difficult for everyone to participate and it can also deter the group in whatever assignment that needs to be completed. Although, trust is earned and not given, every group member needs to understand that the most important thing is the completion of the assignment and every group member needs to pull his or her own weight. ââ¬Å"Less ssertive team members will be encouraged by the atmosphere of trust in an effective learning team to take on a more directive, custodial role on occasions. The more assertive will learn that their success depends on the success of the entire team, and they will become more aware of the value of team work and joint effort in achieving goalsâ⬠(Baker University Handbook, 2010 ). When assigning tasks to different group members in your learning team, you want to assign the tasks that will appeal to a personà ¢â¬â¢s strengths. If you have a member that is not very familiar with a computer or someone that is not very proficient at typing, then you do not want to put that person in charge of typing your project. You want to try to cater to everyoneââ¬â¢s strengths, while at the same time, working to strengthen some of their weaknesses. If you have the opportunity to choose your group members, it is important to choose people that you are able to get along with. Also, you want to try to bring some diversity to the group. Different people bring different things to the table, both good and bad. It is not always a good idea to bring someone in to your group because they are your friend or you like hanging out with them. Remember, the main goal of the learning team is to have maximum participation and most of all, completing the assignment, the right way. By understanding what you need to accomplish and the steps you need to take in order to accomplish your mission, working as a learning team can be extremely beneficial to all parties involved. ââ¬Å"Those who want success should think like a planter. They should understand that having the right seed is an essential key to success, but they must also understand that the soil that they entrust to the seed is just as vitalâ⬠¦ Can you honestly say the environment(s) you are in will yield the kind of harvest you are expecting?
